We took their dated, closed-off galley kitchen and turned it into a stunning, open-concept oasis—perfect for cooking, entertaining, and making memories. This was no small task, though! From removing two walls (one of them load-bearing!) to adding savvy storage solutions and a custom island, this project had its challenges—but the results speak for themselves.

A Perfect Partnership For a Dream Kitchen Remodel

They were a young family living in an older home in a wonderful neighborhood, but their kitchen just wasn’t working for them. The family’s kitchen was tucked away, with walls separating it from the dining and living areas, making the space feel small and closed off. They craved an open-concept kitchen where the whole family could gather, and we were more than ready to deliver. White, Bright, and Welcoming Luxury Kitchen Design and Materials

The design for this kitchen makeover is best described as calm and cozy, blending warm, neutral tones with smart, stylish details. The kitchen features white dove cabinets from Fabuwood, topped with elegant white MSI quartz countertops. Brass hardware from Top Knobs adds a touch of sophistication. The backsplash tile came from Procida Tile, complementing the creamy tones of the cabinets and countertops for a cohesive design.

We refinished the existing gorgeous walnut-stained oak flooring to ensure the exact hue to create cohesive design. One of the stars of the space is the generously sized island, which comfortably seats the family of four and serves as both a cooking station and a gathering place. Removing the walls allowed us to extend the kitchen into the dining area, creating a natural flow that feels both functional and inviting.

Windows and doors were upgraded with Andersen products, ensuring energy efficiency and enhancing the overall look. Two additional windows in the dining area brighten the space, while a large window over the sink provides an idyllic view, making daily kitchen tasks feel like a breath of fresh air. A beautifully curved range hood is the focal point, with symmetrical cabinets on either side for a perfectly balanced look. While the appliances were selected by the clients and purchased from Plessers, they opted for GE appliances throughout, which fit perfectly into the design and offer top-notch functionality.

Client Priorities and Challenges

The clients had a clear vision from the start: an open-concept kitchen that would be the heart of their home. They wanted more space, plenty of light, and a large island where their family could gather. Removing walls was key to achieving this open, modern layout, and they trusted us to deliver a design that would meet their needs.

But there was a challenge—the load-bearing wall between the kitchen and living room. At the time of signing, we couldn’t guarantee there wouldn’t be a support post right in the middle of their newly planned island. This is the kind of information you can only glean after you’ve begun. The uncertainty was a concern, but the clients put their faith in our expertise. During the demo phase, we discovered a solution: we could install a triple LVL beam to support the structure, eliminating the need for a post entirely! This breakthrough allowed us to create the vast, open space they dreamed of, with the beautiful island as the centerpiece.

The clients were thrilled, and so were we! Solving this challenge truly elevated the project, giving them the full, open-concept layout they desired without compromise. Our ability to pivot during the demolition phase and offer a creative, cost-effective solution delivered on the client’s vision and underscored our commitment to craftsmanship and problem-solving.
